Alexis Smith

Alexis Smith (1921–1993, Canada/United States) was a Canadian-American actress who rose to prominence in Hollywood during the 1940s and 1950s, starring in over 50 films for Warner Bros., often portraying elegant, sophisticated women in dramas and musicals such as *The Two Mrs. Carrolls* (1947) and *Night and Day* (1946). She earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in *The Doughgirls* (1944) and later transitioned successfully to the stage, winning a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Sally Durant Plummer in *Follies* (1971). Smith’s career highlighted her versatility, spanning film, theater, and television until her death from cancer.
