Antonio Gades

Antonio Gades (1936–2004, Spain) was a Spanish flamenco dancer, choreographer, and actor renowned for his innovative fusion of traditional flamenco with dramatic narratives. He achieved international acclaim through his stage company, the Antonio Gades Ballet, and for directing and starring in films like *Blood Wedding* (1981) and *Carmen* (1983), which adapted Federico García Lorca’s and Prosper Mérimée’s works into visually striking dance-cinema hybrids. Gades’ contributions helped elevate flamenco as a global art form, influencing both theater and film.
