Barbara Sukowa
Barbara Sukowa (1950–Present, Germany) is a German actress known for her collaborations with New German Cinema directors Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Margarethe von Trotta. She rose to prominence in Fassbinder’s films Lola (1981) and Veronika Voss (1982), and earned international acclaim for her lead role as Rosa Luxemburg in von Trotta’s 1986 biopic, winning the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Sukowa has since appeared in diverse international projects, including theater, television, and films like Otto; or, Up with Dead People (2008) and the series 12 Monkeys (2015–2018).
