Charles Chaplin

Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889–1977, England/Switzerland) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. Best known for his screen character “The Tramp,” he directed, produced, and starred in classics such as *The Kid* (1921), *The Gold Rush* (1925), and *City Lights* (1931), pioneering techniques in visual storytelling and physical comedy.
