Georges Marchal

Georges Marchal (1920–1997, France/Monaco) was a French stage and screen actor renowned for his intense performances in post-war cinema and theater. He debuted in films with “La Chartreuse de Parme” (1948) and gained prominence through roles in movies like “Nuit et brouillard” (1955) and “Les Grandes Familles” (1954), earning the Prix Max Ophüls in 1950 for his contributions to French acting. Over his career, he appeared in more than 60 films and numerous stage productions, embodying the archetype of the brooding intellectual in European arthouse cinema.
