Giulietta Masina

Giulietta Masina (1921–1994, Italy) was an Italian actress renowned for her poignant portrayals of vulnerable, whimsical characters in films directed by her husband, Federico Fellini. She gained international acclaim for her role as Gelsomina in *La Strada* (1954), earning the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, and as Cabiria in *Nights of Cabiria* (1957), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Masina’s expressive, Chaplinesque style made her a key figure in Italian neorealism and Fellini’s cinematic oeuvre, though she appeared in fewer films later in her career.
