Maurice Ronet

Maurice Ronet (1927–1983, France) was a French actor known for his brooding, introspective roles in European cinema during the 1950s and 1960s. He gained international recognition for his performances in Louis Malle’s films, including the lead role as Julien Tavernier in *Elevator to the Gallows* (1958) and the suicidal protagonist in *The Fire Within* (1963), often portraying alienated, upper-class characters. Ronet appeared in over 50 films, collaborating with directors like Jean-Pierre Melville and Roger Vadim, and his work contributed to the French New Wave and art-house traditions.
