Ruy Guerra

Ruy Guerra (1931–Present, Mozambique) Ruy Guerra is a Mozambican-born Portuguese film director, screenwriter, and actor, best known for his contributions to the Cinema Novo movement in Brazil during the 1960s. He directed influential films such as *Os Cafajestes* (1962) and *O Fabuloso e o Arlequim* (1968), blending social realism with experimental techniques to address themes of colonialism and political oppression. Guerra has also appeared as an actor in several international productions, including Jean-Luc Godard’s *Vent d’est* (1970), and later returned to Mozambique to promote African cinema post-independence.
