Sacha Guitry

Sacha Guitry (1885–1957, Russia/France) was a French actor, director, screenwriter, and playwright, renowned for his prolific output in theater and early cinema. He directed and starred in over 30 films, including adaptations of his own plays like *The Story of a Cheat* (1936), and was a key figure in French boulevard comedy and the transition from silent to sound cinema. Guitry’s elegant, verbose style and advocacy for French cultural heritage earned him the nickname “the French Noel Coward.”
