Alexander Esway

Alexander Esway (1903–1961, Hungary/United Kingdom) was a Hungarian-born British film editor and occasional director. He gained prominence in the British film industry during the 1930s and 1940s, editing notable films such as Alexander Korda’s The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) and Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (1935). Esway also directed a handful of features, including The Good Companions (1933) and The Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1937), contributing to the era’s cinematic output.
