Carlos Saura

Carlos Saura (1932–2023, Spain) was a Spanish film director, screenwriter, and photographer. He gained international acclaim for his introspective films exploring themes of memory, repression, and Spanish identity under Franco’s dictatorship, including masterpieces like *The Hunt* (1966) and *Cria Cuervos* (1976). Saura’s later works, such as the flamenco dance trilogy (*Blood Wedding*, *Carmen*, and *El Amor Brujo*) in collaboration with choreographer Antonio Gades, further solidified his reputation as a pivotal figure in post-Franco Spanish cinema.
