John Berry

John Berry (1917–1999, United States/France) was an American film and theater director whose career spanned Hollywood, Broadway, and European cinema. Blacklisted during the McCarthy era for his leftist associations, he relocated to France in the 1950s, where he directed acclaimed films such as *Ça va barder* (1955) and *Tamango* (1958), before returning to the U.S. to helm the influential Blaxploitation drama *Claudine* (1974). His work is noted for its social realism and contributions to both American and French cinema during periods of political upheaval.
