Ladislao Vajda

Ladislao Vajda (1906–1966, Hungary/Spain) was a Hungarian-born film director who worked extensively in Spain after emigrating in the 1930s. He began his career as an actor and editor before directing over 30 films, including notable works like “La guerra de Dios” (1953) and the internationally acclaimed “Marcelino pan y vino” (1955), which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Vajda’s contributions helped shape post-war Spanish cinema, blending social themes with accessible storytelling.
