Michael Cacoyannis
Michael Cacoyannis (1922–2011, Cyprus/Greece) was a Greek Cypriot filmmaker, widely regarded as one of the most important Greek directors. He is best known for directing *Zorba the Greek* (1964), which earned him Academy Award nominations for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as for his acclaimed adaptations of Greek tragedies, including *Electra* (1962) and *Iphigenia* (1977).
