Vittorio De Sica

Vittorio De Sica (1901–1974, Italy/France) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is widely regarded as one of the principal exponents of Italian neorealism, with acclaimed works such as Bicycle Thieves (1948) and Umberto D. (1952) that explored the struggles of ordinary people in postwar Italy. De Sica’s films earned him multiple Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, including for Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963).
