The Story:
In the sweltering heart of 1560, Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro leads a grand expedition from the Andes into the uncharted Amazon basin, driven by whispers of the fabled golden city of El Dorado; facing starvation and savage wilderness, he dispatches a daring scouting party of 40 men rafting down the treacherous river under the command of noble Don Pedro de Ursúa (Ruy Guerra), with the fiery second-in-command Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski) at his side.
As the raft plunges deeper into the emerald inferno, Aguirre’s insatiable thirst for power erupts in betrayal—slaying Ursúa in a brutal mutiny, he crowns the corpulent Don Fernando de Guzmán (Peter Berling) as a puppet “Emperor of El Dorado” and defies the Spanish throne, dragging his ragged band into a vortex of ambition and anarchy.
Beneath a canopy of madness, poisoned arrows from hidden tribes, ravaging fevers, and gnawing hunger claim the souls one by one, until Aguirre, the self-proclaimed Wrath of God, stands alone on a corpse-laden raft swarming with monkeys, raving of empires unborn with his fallen daughter Florés (Helena Rojo) at his side—a hypnotic descent into the abyss of human folly that will haunt your dreams.
