The Story:
In the shadows of 1915 Paris, young Édith Giovanna Gassion (Brigitte Ariel) is born on the cobblestone streets and abandoned to a life in a Normandy brothel, where she miraculously regains her sight after a pilgrimage and discovers her voice while performing with her father alongside half-sister Simone “Momone” Berteau (Pascale Christophe).
Striking out alone in the rough Pigalle district, Édith endures exploitation, the tragic loss of her infant daughter, and suspicion in the murder of her benefactor Louis Leplée (Guy Tréjan), threatening to crush her rising star until rescued by stern composer Raymond Asso.
Yet with raw talent honed for a breathtaking breakthrough at the ABC Music Hall, she transforms from street urchin to the immortal voice of France in this tale of triumph over tragedy.
