The Story:
In a lavish Bavarian chateau, industrialist Gerhard Christ (Alexander Allerson) and his elegant wife Ariane (Margit Carstensen) arrive separately for secret trysts with their lovers, unaware that their crippled teenage daughter Angela (Andrea Schober), driven by bitterness over her affliction which she blames on their infidelities, has cunningly orchestrated the convergence, accompanied by her mute housekeeper Elisabeth (Brigitte Mira) and the housekeeper’s plagiarist son Gabriel (Volker Spengler).
As suspicions ignite and alliances fracture during a tense dinner, Angela deviously proposes a psychological game called Chinese Roulette, dividing the group into teams to guess a chosen person’s identity through cruel metaphorical questions, culminating in her devastating query: “What would this person have been in the Third Reich?”—revealing with malicious glee that the answer, a concentration camp commandant, describes her own mother Ariane, exposing layers of deceit and long-buried resentments.
In this gothic web of converging betrayals and verbal savagery, as revelations shatter illusions and a first gunshot echoes earlier, the chateau plunges into darkness with a second fatal shot—leaving the shooter and victim unidentified, a chilling enigma that propels audiences into the unpredictable roulette of human malice and unspoken doom.
