The Story:

In the sun-drenched shores of Provence, Fernand Jouvin (Fernandel), a carefree restaurateur long lost to the ravages of World War II, returns after thirteen years of captivity and unexpected romance in Austria with his mistress Gerda, only to find his beloved wife Christiane (Claire Maurier) has mourned him as dead and remarried the diligent Norman chef André Colombey (Bourvil), who has elevated their humble eatery to culinary fame.

A uproarious battle ensues in the kitchen and hearth as the Provençal oil enthusiast Fernand clashes with the butter-obsessed André, feigning Siberian hardships to reclaim his home while their rival recipes and stubborn egos turn domestic bliss into chaotic comedy, all while Christiane navigates the turmoil of two husbands under one roof.

Directed by Gilles Grangier, this 1963 French comedy masterpiece blends heartfelt rivalry with side-splitting antics, where fishing lines and pétanque games forge an unlikely bromance, culminating in a delicious truce that proves friendship is the richest sauce of all—don’t miss the buttery hilarity of My Wife’s Husband!
