The Story:
In the shadowy underbelly of Vienna, two lost souls collide: Willie (Elliott Gould), a once-respected architect drowned in alcoholism and regret, forsakes his bourgeois world to wander as a vagabond, finding unlikely refuge with Josef (Heinz Moog), an aged ex-railroad worker holed up in a crumbling theater, surrounded by pilfered street signs, as they share nights of aimless prowls, cheap booze, and fleeting camaraderie with a weathered prostitute and a sympathetic waitress.
But fate snaps a cruel shutter when Willie’s ever-present camera unwittingly frames a brutal murder by a wild-eyed young rocker, thrusting the duo into a relentless chase by a savage motorcycle gang hell-bent on silencing the evidence, forcing them to dodge danger while grappling with ghosts of their pasts—Josef’s ill-fated visit to his thriving son in Munich exposes his alienation from tidy domesticity, and Willie’s desperate reunion with his ex-wife in Salzburg ends in heartbreak as he impulsively whisks away their young son Tommi, only to confront his own paternal failures and abandon the boy to reclaim his rootless existence.
A tale of redemption’s fragile spark amid the grit and gloom of urban exile, where a twist of providential vengeance liberates the wanderers, igniting Willie’s resolve to shed the drifter’s cloak and reclaim the life he nearly lost forever—don’t miss this poignant Austrian odyssey of broken men mending in the neon haze!
