The Story:
In the glittering yet decaying shadows of 1930s Berlin, Jacob Fabian pens clever cigarette ads by day and dives into the city’s wild nightlife by night, alongside his idealistic companion Stephan Labude, all while turning a blind eye to the creeping tide of extremism and despair.
Love blooms unexpectedly when Fabian encounters the radiant aspiring actress Cornelia Battenberg, but fortune turns cruel as he loses his job, plunging him into the unemployment lines he once scorned; meanwhile, Cornelia rises under a magnate’s wing, abandoning him for stardom, and Labude crumbles under a vicious hoax and Nazi shadows, choosing death over defeat.
As Fabian flees the ruins of his life back to his mother’s side in a quiet town, a final act of heroism sees him leap into raging waters to save a boy—only for irony to claim him, the non-swimmer, in a poignant plunge into eternity, capturing the tragic unraveling of dreams in a world gone mad.
