The Story:
In the idyllic resort town of Brownsville, Oregon, roguish helicopter pilot Steve Brannigan (Robert Culp) finds young Andy (Eric Olson) unconscious near the leaking earthen dam after heavy rains, alerting city councilman Paul Burke (Martin Milner) and dam supervisor Sam Adams (Cameron Mitchell) to the looming collapse.
Mayor John Cutler (Richard Basehart) denies the danger to protect tourism and real estate interests despite warnings from his wife Alice (Teresa Wright) and daughter Mary (Barbara Hershey) romantically tied to Burke, refusing to open floodgates until the structure fails and floods the valley killing Adams.
Brannigan and Burke then race through the submerged town in a helicopter to rescue pregnant Abbie Adams (Carol Lynley) from her flooding home and the mayor’s son from debris-choked bridge before dynamiting it to drain waters leaving the humbled mayor confronting his negligence in this pulse-pounding 1976 disaster epic.
