The Story:

In the sun-drenched Provençal village of Valorgue, stubborn baker Félicien Hébrard (Fernandel) runs his daily rounds with pride, unaware that his wayward son Justin has left behind a scandalous surprise: the pregnancy of Françoise, daughter of the sharp-tongued Italian grocer widow Madame Zanetti, before fleeing to join the army in Algeria.

As whispers turn to uproar, the village splits into feuding camps—the baker’s loyalists decrying the accusation and the grocer’s partisans, rallied by postmaster M. Aussel, demanding justice for the unwed mother—igniting a hilarious war of boycotts, with Félicien refusing bread to his foes and Madame Zanetti barricading her shop, culminating in a chaotic attempt to hijack the baker’s flour truck amid escalating anarchy.

Will pride crumble before the cries of a newborn, or will Valorgue’s petty passions bake a recipe for reconciliation in this uproarious comedy of errors, where every loaf tells a tale of love, loyalty, and the folly of small-town feuds?
