The Story:
In the elegant world of pre-war aristocracy, young Chiffon (Odette Joyeux), a spirited and eccentric debutante, faces mounting pressure from her ambitious mother, Madame de Bray, to wed the dashing yet mature Duke of Aubières (André Luguet), a worldly military officer and family friend freshly returned from abroad, promising social security and prestige for their lineage.
Yet Chiffon’s heart belongs secretly to Marc de Bray (Jacques Dumesnil), her idealistic and penniless uncle by marriage, a visionary aviation pioneer who once doted on her as a child but now grapples with his own affections amid complications from his coquettish mistress, Madame de Liron, whose jealousy sparks a whirlwind of comedic mishaps reminiscent of Cinderella, including a delightfully bungled lost shoe escapade.
Will noble honor prevail as the Duke discerns Chiffon’s true passions and nobly steps aside to orchestrate a soaring romance in the skies of love? This enchanting tale of whimsy, wit, and winged dreams, directed by Claude Autant-Lara, lifts audiences to new heights of romantic delight.
