The Story:

In the quaint provincial town of 1950s France, fresh-faced literature teacher Jean-François Robignac (Michel Serrault), brimming with youthful enthusiasm, arrives at a sleepy college to inspire a rowdy class of forty ninth-graders with his bold new methods, turning dusty classics into vibrant lessons laced with modern slang.

But tradition clashes with innovation as stern colleagues like Maître Bardine (Jean Poiret) decry his unorthodox approach, while budding romance blooms with the alluring Gina Lantois (Sylva Koscina), the married mother of one of his star pupils, threatening scandal and forcing Jean-François to balance passion and professionalism amid comedic chaos—including a hilarious encounter with a ladder salesman (Darry Cowl).

Directed by Philippe Agostini, this tender comedy of innocence and rebellion captures the heartwarming spirit of a naive educator’s quest to ignite young minds, blending laughter, light romance, and the timeless magic of teaching in an era of change.
