The Story:
Armand Lavarède (Fernandel), a charming but penniless dreamer, inherits a vast fortune from his late uncle, but only if he can circumnavigate the globe and return within 45 days using no more than five sous! With the clock ticking, he sets off on a whirlwind adventure across continents, aided by the lovely Aurett (Josette Day), daughter of the steadfast English referee Sir Murlington, who harbors a secret affection for the intrepid traveler.
Hot on his heels is the villainous creditor Bouvreuil, scheming to derail Lavarède’s quest at every turn to claim half the inheritance for himself— from sabotaging his Atlantic crossing aboard the grand ocean liner Normandie, where Lavarède hides in a piano crate only to be discovered, to framing him as a public enemy in America, landing him in a bizarre French-speaking jail narrowly escaping the electric chair, and pursuing him through daring disguises in San Francisco, a funeral procession in Calcutta as the “Son of Heaven,” and as a bayadère dancer fleeing Egypt after a whirlwind romance with the exotic Princess Djali.
