The Story:
In the shadowy underbelly of 1930s London, devoted husband Tom Masterick uncovers his wife Doris (Chili Bouchier)’s affair with the roguish Fred Smith (John Slater), sparking a furious brawl that ends with Smith vanishing into the Thames; convicted of murder on scant evidence despite no body, Tom’s death sentence is spared for life imprisonment, leaving his young daughter Jill (Petula Clark) to be raised by kind newspaper editor Sullivan (Brefni O’Rorke).
Fifteen years later, a weathered Tom emerges from prison, driven by unquenchable rage to prove his innocence; tracking down his fallen wife Doris, he learns Smith lives under an alias running a dingy pub, and through cunning deception, lures the man into a scheme to split wrongful imprisonment compensation, only to confront the original prosecutor, now Judge Kenneth Crossley (Kynaston Reeves), with the living “victim” in a bid for justice.
