The Story:
In the vibrant world of 1955 West Germany, young composer Karl Zimmermann (Walter Giller), a staunch devotee of Beethoven’s classical grandeur, tutors the spirited Anni Pichler (Inge Egger), whose heart beats to the wild rhythms of modern jazz; their fiery musical debates ignite a passionate romance, leading to a whirlwind marriage that promises harmony amid the discord.
A year later, Karl unveils his magnum opus—a sweeping traditional symphony—only to face crushing rejection from publisher Berndorff, who deems it outdated; in a bold move, Anni, aided by her charming friend Maurice (Claus Biederstaedt), secretly transforms the score into the sizzling “Rhapsody in Jazz,” using her irresistible allure to sway Berndorff into publication.
As Karl rages against this “desecration” and rallies the police to halt the premiere, Maurice urges him to embrace change; witness the triumphant concert hall ovation that bridges classical and jazz, mending Karl and Anni’s rift in a joyous symphony of love and music’s endless possibilities.
