The Story:
In 1946 French comedy Pas si bête directed by André Berthomieu, simple Norman farmer Léon Ménard [Bourvil] reconnects with beautiful cousin Nicole [Suzy Carrier] and visits the grand estate of wealthy uncle Henri Ménard [Albert Duvaleix], where he faces mockery from aristocratic snobs and bourgeois schemers.
His country wits soon expose greedy cabaret singer Gaby [Mona Goya] plotting to wed uncle Henri for his fortune and the broke Count of Bellemont [Jacques Louvigny] pushing son Didier [Bernard Lancret] to marry Nicole for the inheritance, until a loyal governess uncovers a letter proving Didier’s pure love.
With villains banished and Léon securing Didier a factory post, the film ends in a joyful double wedding as Léon weds sweetheart Rosine [Jacqueline Beyrot] and Nicole unites with Didier, teasing the triumph of rustic cleverness over high-society pretensions.
