The Story:

In the misty coastal village of Brittany, the reclusive nobleman Julien de Kériadec (Fernand Ledoux), mockingly called “Pattes Blanches” for his immaculate white spats, dwells in his decaying chateau, isolated from the world until the alluring Odette (Suzy Delair), mistress of the boisterous fish merchant and saloon keeper Jock le Guen, catches his eye with her vibrant spirit amid the lively dancehalls.

Julien’s forbidden advances toward Odette ignite the fury of his resentful half-brother Maurice (Paul Bernard), a social outcast simmering with vengeance, who cunningly manipulates the seductive dancer to ensnare Julien in a web of jealousy, betrayal, and destructive passion that threatens to shatter the fragile peace of their intertwined lives.

As shadows of desire clash in this noir-tinged melodrama of 1949, directed by Jean Grémillon, witness the tragic unraveling of noble pride and vengeful hearts in a tale where love’s white paws leave bloody trails along the rugged French shore.
