The Story:

In the shadowy world of madness and mystery, down-on-his-luck actor Dale Nelson (Stuart Whitman) is recruited to infiltrate a state asylum by posing as an insane patient, all to uncover the hidden million-dollar fortune supposedly stashed by the unhinged gardener Martin Ashley (Roddy McDowall), who brutally murdered his wealthy employer and claimed to have torched her riches before being committed under the watchful eye of the cunning psychiatrist Dr. Edwina Beighley (Lauren Bacall).

As Dale navigates the asylum’s treacherous corridors, he forges an unlikely bond with Ashley over their mutual fascination with botany and sparks a tender romance with the fragile Cynthia (Carol Lynley), a patient haunted by an paralyzing fear of touch—until the ruthless Dr. Beighley uncovers his deception, subjecting him to brutal electroshock therapy and experimental drugs that plunge him into a nightmarish catatonic haze, all in her desperate bid to fund her obsessive research and claim the fortune for herself.

Prepare for a pulse-pounding descent into psychological terror where sanity hangs by a thread, electrifying twists expose the darkest secrets of the human mind, and one man’s desperate escape from the brink of oblivion reveals a fortune turned to ash in this gripping neo-noir thriller that will leave you questioning the fine line between genius and madness!
