The Story:
In the shadowed forests of 14th-century Sweden, young knight Erland Månesköld (Alf Kjellin) wanders from his cursed ancestral castle and encounters the enchanting Romani beauty Singoalla (Viveca Lindfors), whose wild spirit ignites a forbidden passion; defying class and creed, they wed in a secret pagan rite, with Erland forsaking his noble life to roam with her nomadic tribe.
Jealousy festers as Singoalla’s former lover Assim schemes betrayal, leading the tribe to plunder the Månesköld treasure; in a frenzy of poison and violence, Erland is left for dead, rescued only to be consumed by delusions of treachery, while a decade later, he weds a proper lady to quell his mother’s pleas, his heart still tormented by lost love—until Singoalla returns with their unknown son, Sorgbarn, the Child of Sorrow, desperate to mend the shattered bond.
