The Story:
In the misty woods of 18th-century Italy, hapless wanderers Stanlio (Stan Laurel) and Ollio (Oliver Hardy) lose their life savings to thieves, vowing to turn bandit themselves; their bumbling debut robbery goes awry when Ollio poses as the infamous Fra Diavolo (Dennis King), only to confront the real devilish outlaw who spares their necks and presses them into service as his personal valets.
Posing as the suave Marquis, Fra Diavolo enlists the duo in a daring heist at a bustling inn, targeting the fortune of Lord Rocburg (James Finlayson) and his alluring wife Lady Pamela (Thelma Todd); as Diavolo charms secrets from the lady, Stanlio and Ollio’s slapstick blunders—from ear-tugging games to a riotous wine-soaked spree in the cellar—threaten to unravel the entire scheme and expose the bandit’s true identity.
Amidst uproarious chases and chaotic revelry, the fools’ antics culminate in a powder-keg finale where loyalties shatter, guns blaze, and in a madcap twist, the trio faces a firing squad—only for Stanlio and Ollio to bull their way to freedom in this riotous blend of romance, robbery, and relentless laughter!
