The Story:
In the sun-kissed streets of Rome, provincial newlyweds Ivan Cavalli (Leopoldo Trieste), a meticulous clerk obsessed with propriety, and his dreamy bride Wanda (Brunella Bovo) arrive for their honeymoon, with Ivan’s ironclad itinerary set on impressing his influential uncle and securing a papal blessing to cement their middle-class bliss.
But Wanda, secretly enthralled by the swashbuckling hero of her fotoromanzo fantasies—the White Sheik (Alberto Sordi)—slips away from the hotel to chase her idol at the Blue Romance studios, only to be swept into a chaotic beach shoot where the vain, lecherous actor Fernando Rivoli shatters her illusions with his petty seductions and domineering wife, leaving her stranded and despairing, while back in Rome, frantic Ivan spins wild lies to cover her absence, stumbling into a poignant night with kindhearted prostitute Cabiria (Giulietta Masina).
