The Story:
In the summer of 1940, close-knit Oklahoma National Guard buddies Gil Hackett (John Derek) and Tom McCreery (John Drew Barrymore) complete maneuvers in Green Hill before Congress mobilizes their Thunderbird unit, both men deeply in love with Mary Caldwell (Eileen Christy) who ultimately chooses Tom while Gil finds solace with nurse Lt. Ellen Henderson (Mona Freeman).
After Pearl Harbor the Thunderbirds deploy to North Africa, Sicily and Italy where fellow soldier Keith Watson (Scott Elliott) spreads rumors that Tom’s father was dishonorably discharged, Sgt. Logan (Ward Bond) forbids a rescue when Tom goes missing behind enemy lines yet proves heroic before the truth emerges that Logan is Tom’s father John McCreery seeking redemption under a false name.
