The Story:
In 12th-century Japan during the Heiji Rebellion, brave samurai Moritō guards the decoy carriage of beautiful lady-in-waiting Kesa through rebel attacks and falls deeply in love with her grace and courage.
After victory the ruler offers Moritō any reward but he demands Kesa’s hand despite her marriage to gentle guard Watanabe no Wataru leading to jealous threats and a deadly ultimatum against her family.
Driven by tragic obsession Moritō’s madness culminates in a horrific mistaken killing forcing eternal penance as he abandons his sword and enters the temple gates forever haunted by the gate of hell.
