The Story:
In 12th-century Japan amid the Heiji Rebellion of 1159, fierce samurai Moritō (Kazuo Hasegawa) heroically guards lady-in-waiting Kesa’s decoy carriage to save the imperial family, igniting his deep obsession with her grace and courage.
Granted any reward by the ruler, Moritō demands Kesa’s hand despite her marriage to honorable guard Watanabe no Wataru, his jealousy escalating into violent threats that force her desperate ruse to protect her loved ones.
Haunted by tragic sacrifice and unyielding regret, Moritō confronts the monstrous cost of his passion, renouncing his sword for monkhood at the temple gates in eternal penance.
