The Story:
In 12th-century Japan during the Heiji Rebellion, loyal lady-in-waiting Kesa acts as a decoy for the royal family and is guarded by fierce samurai Moritō who fights off rebels and falls deeply in love with her beauty and courage.
After the loyalists triumph Moritō demands Kesa’s hand as his reward only to discover she is already married to gentle imperial guard Wataru sparking his obsessive jealousy threats and demand that she help him murder her husband.
Backed into a corner Kesa’s desperate sacrifice leads Moritō to a horrific realization of his crime leaving him broken with regret as he abandons his warrior life to become a monk praying for her soul in this haunting tale of tragic obsession.
