The Story:
In the shadowy halls of his family’s foreboding castle, brilliant but ruthless young Baron Victor Frankenstein (Ralph Bates), a psychopathic genius driven by unholy ambition, sabotages his father’s hunting shotgun to claim his inheritance and resume his forbidden anatomical experiments, fleeing scandal in Vienna after seducing the Dean’s daughter, only to return home and enlist his loyal friend Wilhelm and a sleazy grave robber to assemble a grotesque composite man from stolen body parts, culminating in the cold-blooded murder of a professor for the perfect brain and the dissolution of the blackmailing grave robber in a vat of acid.
As a raging electrical storm crackles across the heavens, Victor animates his towering, mindless creation (David Prowse), a hulking brute that breaks free to unleash a savage killing spree upon the terrified countryside, allowing the cunning Victor to frame his chef for his own crimes, sic the monster on the grave robber’s vengeful wife, and doom his blackmailing housemaid-mistress Alys (Kate O’Mara) to a gruesome fate in the creature’s clutches, all while evading the suspicions of the dogged local policeman Lieutenant Henry Becker, even as the beast turns its rage toward Victor’s innocent fiancée Elizabeth (Veronica Carlson).
Dare to witness Hammer Films’ wickedly twisted tale of mad science and monstrous mayhem, where laughter lurks in the shadows of horror and one man’s depraved genius spirals into a carnival of carnage that will leave you chilled, thrilled, and howling for more in this blackly comic reimagining of Mary Shelley’s eternal nightmare!
