The Story:
In the serene Swiss Alps, austere Protestant pastor Jean Martens (Pierre Blanchar) adopts the orphaned blind girl Gertrude (Michèle Morgan), raising her with devoted care in his family home, shaping her world through his words and faith into a vision of idyllic purity.
As Gertrude blossoms into a beautiful young woman, the pastor’s paternal love twists into forbidden passion, while his son Jacques (Jean Desailly) returns from abroad and falls deeply in love with her, igniting a jealous rift that the pastor exploits with manipulative zeal to thwart their union.
When sight is miraculously restored to Gertrude, harsh truths shatter her illusions, unveiling betrayal and heartache in a symphony of tragic revelation, where innocence drowns in despair and the pastor confronts the shadows of his own soul.
