The Story:
In the opulent first-class cabin of the luxurious TEE Rheingold train gliding through the majestic German Rhine valley, wealthy Elisabeth Drossbach (Elke Haltaufderheide) embarks on what should be a routine journey, her life a facade of marital complacency with the distant diplomat Karl-Heinz Drossbach (Gunther Malzacher), only for a hidden tragedy to unfold as she quietly bleeds out, ignored by the self-absorbed elite around her.
Suddenly gripped by remorse, Karl-Heinz races against time in a frantic taxi pursuit along the winding riverbank roads, desperate to intercept the high-speed train and save his wife, while Elisabeth slips into vivid flashbacks reliving her innocent childhood friendship with the enigmatic Wolfgang Friedrichs (Rüdiger Kirschstein) and the chilling emptiness of her loveless union, their paths forever entangled in a web of regret and unspoken desires.
