The Story:
In 1925, bold journalist Cevat Şakir (Can Togay) is condemned by a military tribunal for his searing article exposing the execution of army deserters, his death sentence commuted to exile in the distant fishing port of Bodrum after a publisher shares his fate.
His six-month odyssey across rugged lands unleashes psychological torment through train-bound flashbacks revealing a shattered childhood, the tragic accidental slaying of his father, and a fateful meeting with enigmatic Levant Marie (Hanna Schygulla) that wrecked his first marriage.
Yet in Bodrum’s turquoise paradise, the outcast discovers rebirth amid sea and simple folk, planting roots and flora to turn punishment into paradise as Turkey’s first ecologist who refuses to leave.
